Youth Services Librarian - Part Time

We are looking for the newest member of our team! If you get excited about sharing your favorite Dogman readalikes or love coming up with a fun-filled family event for the newest Disney movie, we happily invite you to join us! We are seeking an innovative and service-oriented librarian responsible for reference, readers’ advisory, and programming. This part-time position gives the applicant an opportunity to work with our dynamic Youth Services team in a bustling and vibrant library with a strong commitment to children, teens, and caregivers.


Responsibilities

  • Provides reference and readers’ advisory service using print and electronic resources
  • Creates, develops, and implements programming for 5th grade and under, including a family storytime
  • Regularly scheduled at the Youth Services public service desks
  • Maintains expertise and provides instructional training on electronic resources, including library catalog, databases, and digital reading platforms

Necessary Knowledge

  • Possess knowledge of reference and readers’ advisory services
  • Well-versed in children’s and teens literature
  • Extensive knowledge of bibliographic tools and reference resources
  • Proficiency with current technologies, including Microsoft Windows and Office applications

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science; candidates currently pursuing an MLIS will also be considered
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends
  • Access to transportation

Position is part-time at 15 – 18 hours per week, including evenings and weekends. Starting salary is $27.75/hr for MLIS students and $28.75/hr for MLIS graduates.  Applicants for all positions are subject to a background check.
