Youth Services Assistant

Do you know how to turn paper plates into animals? Can you turn household ingredients into slime? Did you know that Elephant and Piggie have many books written about their adventures? Then this is your opportunity to join the Orland Park Public Library YS Team!  OPPL has a thriving group of young patrons ready for your program or book recommendations!

We are seeking an innovative and service-oriented professional responsible for reference, readers’ advisory, and programming. We have a fantastically creative team and we are looking for our newest member.

Responsibilities

• Provides reference and readers’ advisory service using print and electronic resources
• Develops and conducts programming such as storytimes, crafts, events, etc.
• Regularly scheduled at the Youth Services public service desks serving birth to high school

Necessary Knowledge

• Possess knowledge of reference and readers’ advisory services
• Well-versed in children’s and teens literature
• Proficiency with current technologies, including Microsoft Windows and Office application

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with a minimum 1-year child-related experience
• Must be willing to work evenings and weekends

Position is part-time at 15 – 18 hours per week including evenings and weekends.  Starting salary is $24.00/hr.  Applicants for all positions are subject to a background check.
