Step into the Mexican myth of La Llorona, reimagined by choreographer Julianna Rubio Slager through a lens of compassion. The story follows Maria, a new mother overwhelmed by despair and mental anguish. Rather than a tragic end, Maria’s journey becomes one of awareness, healing, and hope. The ballet draws attention to postpartum depression, a condition that affects 6.5–20% of new mothers, particularly in underserved communities. Through powerful storytelling, La Llorona offers a message of empathy, understanding, and support.
