Patron Services Clerk

The Orland Park Public Library is seeking a dedicated and customer-focused Patron Services Clerk to join our team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with the public, thrives in an active environment, and is passionate about helping patrons access library resources and services. This person will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our library and providing excellent service to our patrons.

Responsibilities

-Assist patrons with checking in and checking out library materials, including books, DVDs, and digital resources

-Register new library users and update existing patron records as needed

-Provide information and assistance to patrons regarding library policies, services, and resources

Necessary Knowledge 

-Strong customer service skills and a friendly, approachable demeanor

-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

-Ability to work independently and as part of a team

-Attention to detail and strong organizational skills

-Possess basic computer skills

-Follow tasks through to completion

Qualifications

-High school diploma or equivalent and one year of work experience in a public contact/customer service position

-Must be willing to work evenings and weekends

Library hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Shifts will include a weekend rotation as well as daytime/evening hours. Starting range is $19.00 – $19.50/hr. Applicants for all positions are subject to a background check.
